Site Services & Steel Erection

MSR provides steel erection services across the North West, putting our own crews on site rather than subbing the lift out. We’ve erected structural steel on live rail infrastructure, including night-possession work at Meols Station, where a missed slot doesn’t get a second chance. Every erection job is planned, sequenced and signed off by the same people who fabricated the steel, from single-frame jobs to multi-phase site programmes.

What we deliver

  • Directly employed erection crews for structural steelwork installation — not agency labour brought in for the job
  • Night-possession erection on live rail sites, working to engineering possession windows rather than standard site hours
  • Structural frame erection: columns, beams, portal frames, staircases and access platforms
  • Site bolting and welding of structural connections, torque-checked and visually inspected before handover
  • Steel decking and purlin installation for roofs and floors on completed frames
  • Pre-erection setting-out checks against drawings, confirming holding-down bolts and foundations before steel goes up
  • Lifts coordinated with crane and MEWP access around site constraints, traffic management and possession boundaries
  • Painted and galvanised finishes matched to the original fabrication spec, with touch-up carried out on site after erection

How we work

  1. 01

    Survey and sequence

We visit site, review the drawings and agree an erection sequence with the main contractor, including access routes and any possession or shift-window constraints.

  2. 02

    Fabricate to erection order

Steel is cut, welded and finished at our Bootle factories in the order it needs to go up, not just the order it appears on the drawing.

  3. 03

    Erect and hand back

Our own crews install, bolt and weld the frame on site and hand it back within the agreed window, including night-possession work where the programme requires it.

MSR fabricates and erects from two factories totalling 22,000 sq ft in Bootle, so the same team that cuts and welds the steel is often the team that puts it up. Erection crews are employed directly, not sourced through agencies, which matters on possession work where continuity on site counts.

Where we work

MSR erects steel across Liverpool, Wirral and Warrington, and further out across the North West and into Ireland. Crews travel from Bootle carrying the same fabrication behind them, whether the job is a single portal frame or a multi-phase rail programme.

FAQ

Common questions.

Do you use your own erection crews or bring in a subcontractor?

Our own. MSR employs its erection crews directly rather than subbing the install out, which matters most on possession work where continuity and accountability on site count.

Can you erect steel on live rail or infrastructure sites?

Yes. We've carried out night-possession erection work at Meols Station, working to rail engineering possession windows rather than standard site hours.

Do you erect steel that MSR didn't fabricate?

Most of our erection work is on steel we've fabricated ourselves, since we build the erection sequence into the fabrication run at our Bootle factories. Get in touch to discuss steel from another supplier.

What area do you cover for steel erection?

We work across Liverpool, Merseyside and the wider North West, and take on contracts across the UK and Ireland, including out-of-hours and possession work.

Tell us what you need fabricated.

Structural, architectural or tunnelling steelwork — send drawings or a rough spec and we’ll come back with a straight answer.
