Structural Steelwork
MSR is a structural steel fabricator in Bootle, Liverpool, cutting, welding and delivering frames, beams and columns for commercial and infrastructure builds across the UK and Ireland. Founded in October 1987 by three former Seaforth Welding tradesmen, the company remains family-run, working from two factories totalling 22,000 sq ft, on programmes where a late beam holds up everyone else on site.
What we deliver
- Universal beams, columns, purlins and rolled hollow sections cut, drilled and welded to fabrication drawings
- Bolted and welded steel frames for warehouses, retail units, industrial sheds and multi-storey structures
- Staircases, walkways, handrails and mezzanine floor steelwork built to fit on site first time
- Base plates, gusset plates and holding-down bolt assemblies set out to the engineer's tolerances
- CNC profile cutting, plate rolling and beam cambering for non-standard or one-off sections
- Shot-blasting and priming in-house, or steelwork prepared ready for hot-dip galvanizing
- Rail-side, tunnelling and marine steelwork fabricated to the tighter tolerances those sites demand
- Delivery scheduling and site coordination so steel arrives in erection sequence, not just on a lorry
How we work
- 01
Drawings and quote
Send us the engineer's GA and fabrication drawings. We price the tonnage, sections and finish, and come back with a programme, not a guess.
- 02
Fabrication in Bootle
Cutting, drilling and welding runs across our two factories, with capacity to run standard frames and awkward one-off sections side by side.
- 03
Delivery and site fit
Steelwork is transported to programme, in erection sequence, with site support where the job calls for it.
MSR fabricates from two factories in Bootle totalling 22,000 sq ft, still run by the family behind the company three former Seaforth Welding employees started in October 1987. Work has ranged from standard commercial frames to rail, tunnelling and marine steelwork for Tier 1 contractors, jobs where a mistake doesn't just cost money, it shuts a railway.

Where we work
Most fabrication leaves the Bootle factories for sites across Merseyside, but the lorries go further than that. Recent work has taken MSR steelwork out to Wirral, St Helens and Warrington, alongside jobs across the wider UK and into Ireland.
FAQ
Common questions.
What sizes and sections can MSR fabricate?
Universal beams and columns, purlins, hollow sections and plate, cut, drilled and welded in-house across our two Bootle factories. If a section is non-standard, we'll tell you straight whether it's a job for us or not.
Has MSR worked on major Liverpool projects before?
Yes. Our fabrication has gone into the Mersey Estuary Pollution Alleviation Scheme sewer works under the Dock Road and the Liverpool ONE retail development, alongside contractors including Morgan Est, Costain, Norwest Holst, Murphy, Birse, Fineturret, A E Yates, Laing O'Rourke and Mansell. MSR has delivered 500+ projects since 1987, and won the Corus Structural Steel Design Award in 2002.
What's a typical lead time for a structural steel package?
It depends on tonnage, section sizes and how fast drawings get approved. Send us your GA drawings and we'll give you a real programme rather than a rough figure.
Does MSR handle site erection as well as fabrication?
We fabricate at our Bootle factories and support delivery and installation on site, working to the sequence your programme needs, across the UK and Ireland.
