Architectural Metalwork
MSR delivers architectural metalwork in Liverpool for projects that need more than a straight structural frame. Bespoke staircases, balustrades, perforated screens and bar metalwork all come out of our Bootle workshops to a finished standard, not just a structural one. We cut, form, weld and finish in-house, so the team that reads the drawing is the same one that signs off the polish. It’s the detail end of fabrication, and we treat it as its own discipline, separate from the structural steel leaving the same factories.
What we deliver
- Bespoke staircases: mild steel or stainless stringers, folded plate or bar treads, floating or closed-string builds, fabricated to an architect's GA rather than a standard catalogue run
- Balustrades and handrails: vertical bar, glass-infill or solid panel balustrades in mild steel or 304/316 stainless, welded for a seamless line or bolted for maintenance access
- Perforated and laser-cut screens: pattern-cut steel and aluminium panels up to full sheet size, used as feature cladding, privacy screens or balustrade infill
- Bar and counter metalwork: fabricated bar fronts, footrests, structural counter frames and fixing brackets for hospitality and retail fit-outs
- Feature and mezzanine staircases: stringers and landings built as complete units off-site, then delivered and craned or carried into position
- Ramped and wreathed handrail sections for curved stair runs, with wall-mounted or post-fixed brackets to suit the stairwell
- Finishes: mill finish, powder coat, hot-dip galvanising, or polished and brushed stainless, matched to the architect's finish schedule
- Site template before fabrication: we measure the actual opening, stairwell or bar footprint on site so the finished piece fits first time, no cutting on the day
How we work
- 01
Survey and template
We measure the real opening, stairwell or bar footprint on site rather than working from the drawing alone, so dimensions are confirmed before any steel is cut.
- 02
Fabricate and finish in Bootle
Cutting, forming, welding and finishing all happen across our two Bootle factories, using the same processes we run for structural work.
- 03
Deliver and fix
Staircases, balustrades and screens go out as complete units wherever possible, with our own team handling installation and final fixings on site.
Two factories in Bootle, 22,000 sq ft between them, run architectural work through the same fabrication lines as our structural and marine jobs, so a staircase or screen gets the same welding and forming capability behind it.

FAQ
Common questions.
Can you fabricate a staircase from an architect's drawing?
Yes. Send us the GA and we'll template the actual opening on site before cutting, so the finished stair fits the space, not just the drawing.
Do you make stainless steel balustrades?
Yes, in 304 or 316 grade, welded or bolted, with a polished or brushed finish to match the rest of the fit-out.
What size perforated screens can you produce?
We pattern-cut steel or aluminium up to full sheet size, then frame or join panels together for larger runs.
Can you install as well as fabricate?
Yes. Staircases, balustrades and screens are usually fitted by our own team, so the people who cut the piece are the ones installing it on site.
