Steel fabrication, Manchester.

Manchester sits around 45 to 55 minutes from MSR’s Bootle works via the M62, a run our wagons make regularly for site deliveries and fabricated steel drops across the city and out to Trafford Park. That geography isn’t incidental. The Manchester Ship Canal gave this city a direct working link to the Port of Liverpool and the Mersey long before the motorway did, and the same east-west corridor that moved cargo between the two ports now moves structural steel and fixings the same way, by road rather than water, in under an hour.

The demand we see out of Manchester leans heavily on two things: architectural metalwork and commercial structural steelwork. The city’s development pipeline has kept both busy for years, from feature staircases and balustrading on residential and mixed-use schemes to primary steel frames for commercial fit-outs, and that pace shows no sign of slowing. There’s also a rail thread worth knowing about. The City Line runs straight through MSR’s Hunt’s Cross Station Steelwork project on its way between Liverpool and Manchester, so a fabricator already embedded in that corridor’s infrastructure is a natural fit for architectural and structural steel work elsewhere along the same line and around the stations it serves.

MSR has been fabricating steel from two factories in Bootle, totalling 22,000 sq ft, since three former Seaforth Welding employees set the company up in October 1987. It’s still family-run, has delivered over 500 projects across the UK and Ireland, and won the Corus Structural Steel Design Award in 2002. None of that is Manchester-specific, but the M62 link is: it’s close enough that site visits, template checks and deliveries don’t cost a contractor a full day, which matters when a Manchester scheme is working to a tight steel erection sequence and needs a fabricator who can turn around drawings and get metal on a wagon without the job disappearing into a queue three counties away.

FAQ

Manchester — common questions.

How far is Manchester from MSR's fabrication works?

Around 45 to 55 minutes from Bootle via the M62. It's a route we run regularly, which keeps site visits, template checks and deliveries to Manchester and out to Trafford Park practical rather than a full day's trip.

What type of steelwork does MSR supply for Manchester projects?

Mostly architectural metalwork (staircases, balustrading, feature steel) and commercial structural steelwork, reflecting the pace of development across the city. We fabricate to drawing at our Bootle works and deliver to site via the M62.

Does MSR work on projects connected to the City Line between Liverpool and Manchester?

Yes. MSR fabricated the steelwork for Hunt's Cross Station, which sits on the same City Line that runs through to Manchester, so we're familiar with rail-corridor steel and the access constraints that come with it.
