Steel fabrication, Widnes & Runcorn.

Widnes and Runcorn sit either side of the Mersey, joined by two bridges: the older Silver Jubilee Bridge and the newer Mersey Gateway Bridge, built to carry the volume of traffic the Jubilee couldn’t handle alone. From our works in Bootle it’s a straightforward run down the M62 onto the A557, roughly 30 to 35 minutes door to door, which keeps site visits, deliveries and erection crews within easy reach of both banks of the river.

That stretch of the Mersey carries a lot of heavy industry - chemical works, process plant, warehousing and distribution sheds lined up along both the Widnes and Runcorn sides. Sites like that don’t need decorative metalwork; they need structural frames that go up on schedule and hold the loads they’re designed for, plus a crew that can erect on site without turning a live plant into a six-month building project. That’s why structural steelwork and site erection are the two services we hear asked for most from this stretch of the river - frames replacing or extending existing structures, mezzanine and platform steelwork tied into process plant, and erection crews who can work around an operating site rather than a green field.

We fabricate at our two factories in Bootle, 22,000 sq ft between them, and take the finished steel out to site ourselves, so the team that welds the frame is often the same one bolting it together on the Widnes or Runcorn side of the water. We’ve been doing that since 1987, still run by the family that founded it, and we’ve worked over the years for contractors including Morgan Est, Costain, Norwest Holst and Laing O’Rourke on projects of this kind across the North West.

If you’ve got a frame going up near either bridge, or a process site on the Runcorn or Widnes bank that needs platform steel adding without stopping production, get in touch and we’ll talk through what’s involved.

FAQ

Widnes & Runcorn — common questions.

How far is Widnes and Runcorn from your fabrication works?

Around 30 to 35 minutes from our Bootle factories, via the M62 and A557. That covers both sides of the Mersey - Widnes and Runcorn.

Do you cover both the Widnes and Runcorn side of the river?

Yes. We fabricate and erect on either bank, whether the site sits near the Silver Jubilee Bridge or the Mersey Gateway Bridge.

What kind of steelwork do you handle for process and industrial sites in this area?

Mostly structural frames and site erection - new frames, extensions to existing structures, and mezzanine or platform steel tied into working process plant, erected with minimum disruption to an operating site.
